Staying Connected to your New Virtual Team
May 21, 2020

Creating connection with your team was easy when you were all in the same office. Host a team lunch or simply check in with everyone face-to-face. But these are different times. You’ve been thrust into the role of virtual team leader with very little preparation, and connection on your team is suffering.
You absolutely CAN still create meaningful connection with your team. In fact, it’s even more essential during these challenging times.
The key to successful virtual team connection is to leverage technology to do the work for you. Keep cameras on for all your meetings, keep chat tools open throughout the day for check-ins and quick questions, create ‘just for fun’ channels on hobbies and shared interests, allow time at the top of meetings for catching up and non-work banter — just like you would in a conference room.
We’ve been working with virtual teams to create cultures of connection for several years, so we know it’s possible. See this helpful download for some great ideas you can use today. And if you’re looking for more tips and information about virtual work, check out PRC’s free online resource page for virtual teams.
Don’t let sheltering at home lead to detachment on your team. Work to make conscious and intentional human connection. Now more than ever, when people are feeling so uncertain, reach out virtually and create connection on your team. If you need additional support, let us know. We’re here to help!
