Looking Back, Looking Ahead: Accomplishments, Reflections & Gratitude
December 19, 2018

The end of the year is always a time of reflection and goal-setting for me. It’s a valuable and insightful exercise, and I encourage you to do the same. Seriously, don’t miss the chance to be thoughtful about your wins this past year, practice gratitude for those who supported your success, give yourself credit for your accomplishments, acknowledge and learn from any missteps, and look forward to what else is possible.
To that end, I can honestly say that 2018 was an exciting, fast-paced year for me professionally.
My biggest accomplishment for the year was writing, editing and yes, launching Virtual Teams for Dummies. Since that release, I’ve been very busy establishing my industry leadership in this space as a guest blogger for industry magazines, media interviews with Inc. magazine on mistakes companies make related to virtual teams, and speaking engagements at companies like Google. It was a ton of work but so worth it and it wouldn’t have happened without the daily support and constant cheerleading from my family.
But it wasn’t all virtual teamwork this year.
I was also named as a 2018 ‘Woman to Watch’ by ColoradoBiz Magazine. I was chosen as a judge for the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards and grateful to be selected as a keynote speaker for several exciting industry conferences. For the first time in over 15 years, Powers Resource Center was named a 2017 Diamond award-winning partner by Wiley – the highest award level –for our work with EverythingDiSC® and The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team®.
In 2019, I’m looking forward to expanding my team of Executive coaches, trainers and consultants to support our growing client base and get laser-focused on offering programs that create the most value for our clients. In fact, my team is psyched to leverage my expertise and momentum on virtual teams by launching a Virtual Team Effectiveness and Virtual Leader Best Practices Program to companies interested in building strong connections, trust and engagement on their remote teams.
In January, we’ll be taking a trip to Orlando to accept my nomination as an Icon Award Winner for my research and thought leadership around virtual teams and we will continue to offer Wiley DISC Certification for consultants, trainers and HR professionals. Your first opportunity to get certified in 2019 will be January 30th and 31st in the Denver Metro area, so please reach out if interested in joining us.
As I look back on 2018 and think about the wins, the obstacles, the extremely long days and nights of writing the book, there is no chance I could have accomplished anything without a support and understanding family, my client partnerships and a nimble and motivating team.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! Have a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year! “Gratitude makes sense of your past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” Melody Beattie
